Fenton 'C' Ride Their Luck To Beat Alsager 'D'

Fenton 'C' returned to winning ways with a 2.5 - 1.5 win over Alsager 'D' in
Division 4 last night, returning to the top of the Division in the process. However, we can consider ourselves slightly lucky as, with the match tied at 1.5 - 1.5, Jason's opponent lost on time whilst up by a Knight for a Pawn. They all count though so we're not complaining. A draw for Rob on Board 1 and a win for Mike on Board 4 completed the Fenton scoring. Geoff overlooked a move that would have given him a draw on Board 2 and paid the price shortly afterwards.

First Defeat Of The Season For The 'C' Team

The 'C' team suffered their first defeat of the season when they were beaten 3-1 at Cheddleton 'F' in Division 4 on Friday evening. Draws for Geoff and Derek on Boards 1 and 2 were offset by losses on Boards 3 and 4 by Jason and Mike.

National Minor Club Championship Update

We have now received further information regarding the National Minor Club Championship. We are actually in Pool B, not Pool A as stated earlier. The draw has been favourable to Fenton as we have been drawn at home to both Syston and Forest Of Dean and these matches are likely to be played on a weekend. We are away to Bushbury, but this is a relatively local fixture and can probably be played midweek. I will let you know when I have confirmed dates for these matches.

Fenton Win The Clash Of The 'D' Teams

Fenton 'D' were away to Alsager 'D' in Division 4 on Tuesday and came away with a 3 - 1 win, lifting them up to the halfway point in the table. Despite a loss for Stuart on Board 1, wins for Geoff, Derek and Ernie made sure of the points for Fenton.

'A' Team Go Top Of Division 2

A great result for the 'A' Team on Monday when they beat a much stronger Macclesfield team by 3.5 - 1.5. Wins on Boards 3 and 5 by Andy Stott and Derrick Wallace, coupled with draws on Boards 1, 2 and 4 by Rob, John and Steve secured the points for Fenton. A special mention must go to Rob Taylor who drew against an opponent graded 45 points higher than him. This win sends Fenton to joint top of  Division 2.

National Minor Club Championship

The National Minor Club Championship has been split into 2 pools, with Fenton playing in Pool A. This will be a round robin competition with the winner playing the winner of Pool B for the Championship. Our opponents in Pool A are Syston from the Leicestershire League, Forest Of Dean from the North Gloucester League and Bushbury from the Wolverhampton League, who are the current Champions. Pool B consists of Hackney from London, Maidstone from Kent and Bishops Stortford from Hertfordshire.

County Cup Dates

We now have confirmed dates for our 2 County Cup matches.

The Jackson U141 Cup match against Cannock will be played on Monday 13th February at Fenton.
The Withnall U121 Trophy match against Rushall will be played on Thursday 16th February at Stafford Chess Club.

Steve & Rob Can't Prevent Defeat For County U140 Team

Steve and Rob turned out for the Staffs U140 team against Warwickshire on Saturday but, despite both drawing their games, were unable to prevent the team going down to an 8.5 - 7.5 defeat.
