The first half of this season has been very successful for Fenton, with the 'B' and 'C' teams going into 2012 top of Divisions 3 and 4 respectively. The 'A' team are currently second from bottom of Division 2 but have played less matches than all of the other teams in the Division. As things stand at the moment, one win would actually take us into 2nd place. The 'D' team are also doing well and currently sit in 4th place in Division 4. You can view the current league tables from the links lower down the right of the page.
We are also doing well in the League Cups. Although we defaulted our Intermediate Cup match against Cheddleton, due to player unavailability, we are in the Semi-Finals of both the Perry Trophy and the Major Cup.
The Club Championship was very successful this year, with most members taking part, and congratulations must go to Derrick Wallace on winning it in his first season with the club. Derrick also has the distinction of still being the only player to remain unbeaten so far this season, both in League and County matches.
Similarly, the Rapid Play Championship went very well and congratulations go to the joint winners - Geoff Yates and Mike Smith. Mike did particularly well because not only is he too a new member, but he has never played over the board chess before joining us.
Our National Minor Club Championship campaign starts in January with an away match at the current Champions, Bushbury of the Wolverhampton League.
I look forward to the second half of the season being as successful as the first half.
