The 'A' team scored a terrific win in Division 1 last night, beating Cheddleton 'A' by 3-1, the first time in the Club's history that we have ever beaten their 'A' team. We were able to field our strongest possible team for the match and they did not let us down. On paper we had the slightly stronger team but their top 2 boards outrated us so it was always going to be a tough match. Gerald got us off to a winning start against Simon Edwards on board 2, although he thought he had a lost position after about 10 moves. Petru made it 2-0 shortly afterwards with a win on board 3 against Bill Armstrong. This left us needing just a draw from one of the two remaining games. Alex played a brilliant game on board 1 with the Black pieces, beating Jacob Boswell, to put us in the lead by 3-0 and guaranteeing us the win. The last game on board 4 was one which you would probably have put your house on Kas winning as he outrated his young opponent, Joe Alcock, by over 320 points. However. it was not one of his best nights, and with less than a minute on his clock he found himself 2 Rooks down and resigned. We are now joint 2nd in the table with Crewe 'A', who are our next opponents on the 25th January. We sit just behind top of the table Crewe 'B' by 1 point but with a match in hand.
